Born and raised in Madera, John Rieping grew up with the delusion that he’d publish his first fantasy novel by age 30. To avoid starving in the meantime, he studied communications at Drake University in Iowa - not realizing journalists go hungry too. Between newspaper jobs, he graduated in philosophy from Mt. Angel Seminary in Oregon and spent four and a half years at the Benedictine monastery of Mount Angel Abbey. God’s providence led him back to his hometown and eventually to his incredible wife. He is now better fed.
