Karen DeOrian is the Director of School Culture and Climate for the Madera Unified School District. The Department of School Culture and Climate supports MUSD schools in building a comprehensive framework, aligning systems of support to cultivate an inclusive, positive, safe culture and climate for students, staff, and families, as they work to meet the behavioral and social-emotional needs of ALL students. This department is responsible for the implementation of Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Positive Behavior Interventions Support (PBIS,) and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in MUSD. Karen is an alumni of Madera High School (Class of 1982) and joined our district in 2017 as Coordinator of Special Services. She began her teaching career as a career-technical education (ROP) teacher at Clovis High School in the mid-1990s. After completing her multiple subjects teaching credentials, she taught 3rd-6th grades at Bethune and Easterby Elementary Schools in Fresno Unified from 1999-2011 and taught special education teacher at Vinland Elementary from 2011-2015. She has been a teacher-special-assignment, supporting special education teachers and site & district administrator. Karen is dedicated to ensuring a positive, engaging, and supportive school culture and climate. When she has free time, Karen loves to travel to her favorite town, Morro Bay, CA.
